ST ALBANS TOWNSEND BOWLS CLUB
Want to try your hand at bowls? Beginner or experienced?
Give our friendly club a try! - we will coach, advise and help you.
There are opportunities at Townsend for bowlers of all ages, all levels of experience, from absolute beginners to highly experienced competitive players - and we have vacancies NOW!
These are the opportunities for those who wish to play bowls - our summer outdoor season starts at the end of April and runs through to the end of September -
Monday evenings: a chance to play mixed bowls for points - a great opportunity to gain experience of all aspects of the game
Tuesday mornings: men`s "rollup" where balanced teams are picked and 8 ends are played. A further 8 ends follow a break for coffee and a chat in our club house. Points are awarded which go towards the presentation of the Claret Cup at the end of the season.
In the afternoon, and on Thursdays, Townsend ladies have their "rollups."
Wednesday afternoons: This is a great opportunity to meet bowlers from other clubs - we play friendly matches, giving all members a chance to get involved.
Saturdays / Sundays : during weekends we have matches against other local clubs on a home and away basis. Most are friendlies, some are more serious than others, but all are played in the pleasant spirit that characterises bowls at all levels!
Bank holiday wekends : we have Gala Days normally involving either a club competition or one also involving bowlers from other clubs
Club Competitions: Trophies are there to be won in numerous mens, ladies and mixed, handicap and open competitions.
Other Competitions: Individual entries at National, County and District level are encouraged, with teams also entered to represent the club.
Ladies Section: Townsend Bowls Club has a thriving and friendly ladies section. We are always looking to welcome new members. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons the Green is primarily used by the ladies, when we play friendly games as well as 'rollups'. There are also mixed games on other afternoons and at the weekends. We play inter club competitions throughout the season - the ladies are affiliated to Hertfordshire County Women's Bowling Assoc. and St Albans & District. So there are plenty of opportunities to compete in matches. In the winter, we meet once a month on a Thursday at the clubhouse, when we have a social afternoon and catch up on all the news.
Winter season: (October - March) during this period we meet regularly on Tuesday mornings for coffee and biscuits. During these meetings we play cards/dominoes/pool or short mat bowls. We also play against other local bowls clubs on their indoor rinks. For all enquiries regarding bowling and club membership please contact Peter or Lorna Thomson on 01727 864453
